Main contenders for 2018 FA Cup success

The draw for the 2018 FA Cup fifth round has been made and there are still top Premier League clubs chasing glory, while several lower league sides maintain their run in the world's oldest and most prestigious cup competition.

There were plenty of interesting match-ups drawn during the latest fifth-round pairings, with runaway English top-flight leaders Manchester City set to face Wigan Athletic in a repeat of the 2013 FA Cup final, in which the Sky Blues were stunned 1-0 by their local rivals.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho's Manchester United face a trip to fellow Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town or else Championship club Birmingham City in the next round, with reigning top-tier champions Chelsea set to square off with Hull City next.

These latest ties are scheduled to take place on the weekend of February 17 and 18, during what should be another exciting and dramatic two days in the domestic football calendar. So, who will lift the illustrious cup at Wembley in 2018? Here are the main contenders to do so in the coming months.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola's high-flying Manchester City are now the 9/4 clear favourites with bet365 in the FA Cup betting after being drawn against League One opponents Wigan in the fifth round of the competition.

The Latics have been flying high this current campaign as they raced to the summit of the League One table, but their upcoming foes Man City have been busy dominating the Premier League under the guidance of Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola.

After further huge-money acquisitions in recent weeks, including defensive recruit Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao who became their record-signing following a £57 million switch from Spain, they will be confident of prevailing outright in the FA Cup once again.

Chelsea

Despite a title-winning last season under the watchful eye of Italian coach Antonio Conte, Chelsea have somewhat struggled to hit the same dizzying heights this current campaign.

The Blues have fallen well off the pace in the Premier League and now have no chance of beating Man City to retaining their crown. Meanwhile, an unfavourable draw against Barcelona in the Champions League means the FA Cup is seemingly their best shot at any silverware this term.

They are seen at 7/2 joint-second favourites to rally to such a success this year, having been toppled by Arsenal in last season's final, but they must first overcome Yorkshire outfit Hull if they are to go all the way to Wembley.

Manchester United

Portuguese boss Mourinho knows exactly how to win trophies and he will be aiming to add further silverware to his cabinet at Man United when his side continue their FA Cup run at the end of February.

The Red Devils are 7/2 to prevail outright this term after being drawn against Huddersfield, a side they will be confident of toppling to progress further to Wembley.

They are still trying to keep pace with Man City in the top tier table in case of an almighty slip up from their nosy neighbours, but the FA Cup and Champions League are now their best chances of success in 2018.
