England international Danny Rose has said that he is getting into his groove after making the loan switch to Newcastle United from Tottenham Hotspur. The left-back was starved of regular gametime after Jose Mourinho took over the reins at Spurs in November and that contributed to his decision to join the Magpies on a short-term loan in January.

Rose has since endured a mixed set of fortunes but he is still hopeful of making the comeback to the England squad in the near future, he told: “I just wish he’d picked a different game to watch!I messaged him after the game and we spoke a bit. Hopefully I will get to see him next week when the next camp gets announced. If I’m being honest and critical then I would say I’m not playing at the level I want to be. It’s been a difficult few months not playing at Tottenham but I am getting in the groove again.”

Rose recently featured in the 0-0 draw against Burnley where he barely had an influence on the attacking scheme of things. As such, he would not have left any impression on Gareth Southgate but he will be hoping to earn the trust of the Three Lions boss in the next couple of games. Newcastle have stayed adrift of the relegation zone for most of the current campaign and they appear on course to beat the drop as they are within five points off the 40-point mark, which is often deemed sufficient to avoid relegation.

Rose, meanwhile, faces stiff competition from the likes of Ben Chilwell, Luke Shaw among others for the left-back role with the Three Lions. It remains to be seen whether he can put up a string of top-notch performances for the Magpies such that he can get into the national team reckoning ahead of Euro 2020.
