HODGSON DISAPPOINTED WITH TERRY
The England manager Roy Hodgson has said that he is extremely disappointed with the decision taken by John Terry to retire from international football. Despite being the manager of the England national team for only a few months, Roy Hodgson has always backed the Chelsea captain in troubled situations.
John Terry was taken to the Euro 2012 over the Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. Roy Hodgson has said that the Chelsea captain had the courtesy of calling him prior to announcing his international retirement. The England manager will now have to plan for a replacement in the central defensive position, which certainly appears to be having a lot of holes.
Rio Ferdinand and John Terry have been the main defensive partnership for England over the last decade. It is highly unlikely that Roy Hodgson will be recalling Rio Ferdinand back to the England national team. Hence, it leaves him with the job to find a successor for both these great central defenders. The likes of Joleon Lescott have not been convincing for England in the appearance as he has made so far. Hodgson will be having many choices to make, as he not only has to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but also build a team for the future.
"I am of course disappointed to lose a player of John's international experience and exceptional ability. I have enjoyed a good relationship with John during my time as England manager and I reluctantly accept his decision. He had the courtesy to call me prior to announcing his retirement," said Roy Hodgson after the announcement of the retirement came. It is expected that John Terry will be losing his case against the English FA. He could be banned for a few matches both at domestic and international level.
