England seal a World Cup position
Just a month after being picked apart for being too buttoned-down, England footbal team coach Roy Hodgson was being filled with kudos for leading the team to the 2014 World Cup finals that will take place in Brazil next year.
The roller coaster journey of England through a difficult group that alternated victories and draws till wins in the past 2 games, ending with a 2 - 0 win over Poland on Tuesday, ensured his men ended a point in front Ukraine to take the automatic qualifying position for finals in Brazil next year.
The sixty six year old England coach stated that this is the finest achievement of his coaching career. At the same time he also admitted that he was also happy leading Switzerland to 1994 football World Cup in United States as well as leading the Euro champs just 2 years after that.
While speaking to the reporters, Roy Hodgson told that he was lucky enough to go to a World Cup with Switzerland, and he was very proud of that especially as Switzerland did not have the quality of players that they have in England. Whilst England’s World Cup odds are much shorter than Switzerlands ever were, he remains unwilling to stake a claim on the trophy just yet.
He added that to be an Englishman and to taking own country to the World Cup makes him mainly proud. This team is developing in terms of dealing with pressure and the real beauty for him is the blend between the established footballers and the younger footballers. Now England have just 6 months to prepare for next year’s World Cup final and am not thinking about what the team would do there.
